Hi everyone! This might not really count as a “craft”, but I have decided to occasionally take advantage of my WAYWO nights to feature a project on Wheeliehouse as I reshape it to accommodate the needs of two cats, one dog, and one semi-crazy sixty-year-old (that would be me). With ENORMOUS thanks to this amazing community which made this portable habitation for me and my small fur family possible!
Welcome to What Are You Working On? where we talk about (and often display) our handiwork, whether yarn and fabric crafts, woodwork, metalwork, art, or anything else “crafty”.
Have a project you’re working on? Share it in the comments!
Have a yen to host a WAYWO blog? See the schedule in the comments and volunteer!
So, one thing I wanted to do was to remove the sofa and see if I could make better use of that space for a single human and multiple cats. I needed a recliner much more than a sofa, and I needed an enclosed area for the beasties’ litterbox, because there is nothing worse than litter trailed all up and down the inside of an RV!
Step one, courtesy of my son: remove the sofa
Step two was the recliner (thank you, You-know-who!) — MUCH needed when I blew out my knee!
Step three, begin the Kitty Kabinet.
I had to build it in three layers, because the door of Wheeliehouse is only two feet wide, and I wanted it to do a lot of things: hold the kitty dishes securely so they didn’t slide around or spill while driving; enclose the litterbox and get the litter off the cats’ feet before they came back out; provide storage for extra litter and supplies; provide storage for my vitamins, medications, and some other stuff; act as a side table for the recliner, and finally, serve as sun perch and lookout area for the cats, as well as creating easy access for them to the Kitty Loft.
That’s a lot, I know! Let’s see how I did :-)
First level:
As you will quickly see, I’m a construction carpenter, not a finish carpenter. Luckily, it only has to be good enough for me and the cats!
Level two: vitamin & medicines & kitty supply storage
Level three: the perches
For this I recycled a lot of the upholstered trim pieces I’d removed when removing the sofa:
AUGH!!!! The image library et half my uploads! I’m going to go ahead and publish this, and then re-upload them… please stand by!
Okay, back!!! The perches, aka the Kitty Highway:
